Shaker Box Workshop Have you always wanted to try your hand at some woodworking? Making Shaker oval boxes is easy enough for beginners, but is great fun regardless of your skill level. This class is offered for two people (17 years and older) to each make a 5" Shaker box using the technics that the original Shakers used in the late 18th C and into the 19th C. You’ll cut and shape the “fingers,” bend the sides of the boxes and the lids, rivet the oval together with copper tacks, and shape the tops and bottoms and peg them into place. The class is held over two days (not necessarily consecutive). Approximately three hours the first day (the sides are cut and then bent in hot water and allowed to dry around a form) and four hours the second day. All materials are included. Guided Mount Auburn Cemetery Bird-Walkand Breakfast, Saturday, May 5, 2018 Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a national historic landmark and has been a mecca for birds and birdwatchers since it was founded in 1831. May is Mount Auburn's glory month, with an impressive variety of spring migrants that rest and feed at the cemetery, en route to breeding grounds in the forests of northern New England and Canada. This unique item includes an early morning walk through Mt. Auburn Cemetery with expert birder, Ken Harte, on Sat., May 5, leaving Carlisle at 6 a.m. After the walk, you and up to three friends will return to Ken's home where Marilyn will serve breakfast. How to see Europe for Less, Sunday, April 30 at 12:30 pm This is a 2-hour presentation of information I have gleaned from traveling to and from Europe. It will cover staying at apartments and less-expensive hotels. We'll discuss decisions to make about the kind of trip you want and the kind of traveler you are. We'll consider websites; transportation options; phone and email/web possibilities; and whether that city pass is worth it. We'll cover travel books, tourist attractions, dining and shopping. Chinese Yo-yo and Lessons to Use It Reference to the "empty bell" was first found in annals of the Ming Dynasty between 1386 and 1644 AD. The bamboo or empty bell, commonly known today as the Chinese yo-yo, was originally made of two round, wooden ends connected in the middle by a horizontal piece of wood. This simple toy was nevertheless an integral part of ancient Chinese culture. This unique auction item includes a multi-color Chinese yo-yo with wooden sticks used to make it spin and do tricks, and lessons from Cole Schaefer.
